It’s Saturday already and time for the last snowboard event of the 2011 Canada Games: snowboard cross. After yesterday’s training day in the rain and temperatures around 6°C, the weather shifted dramatically overnight to -8°C and violent winds. Despite the freezing temperatures, the athletes put on a great show in front of an enthusiastic crowd.
With very close times posted by the top 16 boys and girls in the qualification races, the finals were sure to be exciting.
Tayler Wilton (ON) won the women’s event, while Thomas Pitman (BC) took gold on the men’s side. British Columbia won the most medals of the day with three, followed by Quebec (two) and Ontario (one).
