Newfoundland 0 – Alberta 10
Dartmouth, NS – After a scoreless first period, Bryanne Panchuk (Calgary, Alta.) notched her team’s first three markers within eight minutes of each other in the second, kicking off a 10-0 game in favour of Alberta over Newfoundland during Monday morning’s action at the Dartmouth Sportsplex.
Jessica Kampjes (Bon Accord, Alta.) and Melissa Kueber (St. Albert, Alta.) both contributed two assists on those goals, for a forward line that clearly clicked on the ice. Kampjes made it 4-0 on a Panchuk pass going into the first intermission, creating a gap on the scoreboard that Newfoundland just couldn’t come back from.
Despite the Atlantic team’s best efforts in the third, Alberta went on to fire six more goals into the back of Newfoundland’s net, including one from Kueber that her reliable linemates helped out on. Heather Kashman (Edmonton, Alta.), Karlee Odland (Vauxhall, Alta.), Erika Sowchuk (Cochrane, Alta.) and Katy Josephs (Cochrane, Alta.) each contributed their own goals to the scoresheet.
Just as sure as she opened the scoring, Panchuk topped it off with less than a minute left in the third to give Alberta their 10-0 final score over Newfoundland, for another three points for her team in Canada Winter Games standings.
Alberta next takes on Saskatchewan at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Dartmouth, while Newfoundland faces British Columbia at 4 p.m., also at the Sportsplex.
